The Invisible House - House Full of Mirrors in Desert

A 22-story skyscraper in the middle of the desert is something you wouldn't expect to see. But there is one, sort of—steel and tempered glass cantilevered over rocks, supported up by scarcely detectable cylindrical columns. Its reflective surface swallows the surrounding bulbous boulders to the point that you wonder if the building is actually there. The Invisible House is a 5,500-square-foot fantasy structure located on 90 private acres near Joshua Tree National Park. The Invisible House is located 10 minutes from Joshua Tree, California's downtown area.

The Invisible  House is once a beautiful showpiece and at the same time completely unobstructed. It was designed by owner and filmmaker Chris Hanley in collaboration with Gehry partner Tomas Osinski, and it exists in a roundabout way because of Andy Warhol. The railroad property includes 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and an Office of Mobile Design prefabricated guest house (OMD). The reflecting glass on the inside doubles as full windows, immersing you in the landscape outside. The enormous sliding glass doors may also be opened to connect the two spaces. There's a 100-foot solar-heated indoor pool, a stargazing fire pit, and dimmable LED lighting that glows neon against the dark desert night.

It's all in the details. That, and the major events are:

  • Indoor swimming pool with a length of 100 feet.

  • Joshua Tree National Park is accessible by foot.

  • Boffi kitchen with big island fully supplied Wall-to-wall boulder vistas from a 13-foot dining table.

  • LED interior illumination that may be controlled in a variety of colors.

  • 3 king beds with Frette sheets and a generous supply of pillows.

  • There are four full bathrooms, each with an open steel and glass rain shower.

  • For more space, a separate 1-bedroom house can be added.

  • The Arteflame BBQ converts into a pleasant fire pit for stargazing.

  • It's almost undetectable from other perspectives. "If you're in the correct spot, the house vanishes".

Invisible House was finished in 2020, with environmental sustainability incorporated into the design and great attention taken to ensure that the reflecting surfaces did not hurt the bird and wildlife population. The designers used low-emissivity glass for the walls and installed photovoltaics and a thermal water heating system on the roof to lessen the home's environmental effect. Hanley got the idea for the floating rectangular skyscraper while he was a kid. His mother, who danced with the Metropolitan Opera Corps de Ballet, transported him to Manhattan on a regular basis.

The location can be rented for filming, photography, or events. It's no surprise that Invisible House is a popular retreat for artists, spiritual seekers, and people seeking to reconnect with nature. The Invisible House has already been used for a number of photo and film shoots, and Hanley has even written his own screenplay for a film. It's "a kind of exploration into the mind horror genre's margins." With the construction of 1 bedroom private cottage on the property just meters from the main house, the property can accommodate overnight visits of up to 8 people. And you can have it all for $2,697 per night on Airbnb.
